Enjoy moments together
If you decide to get a new, furry family member, some preparations are in order. However, if you decide to buy a dog from a breeder, you shouldn’t focus solely on the supplies. How to become a conscious purebred dog owner? How to choose a breeder? Read the article to find out!
You shouldn’t follow the recent fads when it comes to choosing a dog breed. Your choice has to be thoughtful if you want for your future life together to be a pleasure. Learn as much as possible about the features of the breed you are interested in, the size, the character. Answer yourself honestly, how much time are you able to dedicate to take care of your dog, where do you live, what is your financial situation. Let’s not pretend that a vigorous greyhound will be happy to spend a whole day laying on the couch or that a dachshund will be a good company for mountain climbing.
If you decide on a breed, it is good to get to know a dog of that breed in person. At present, many cities in Poland have events where the owners of specific breeds walk their dogs together – this is where you could have a chance to see what the breed is like. During the walk you will see how the dogs behave, talk to the owners, get to know the pros and cons of a particular breed and ask about the recommended breeders.
When making a list, be reasonable. Choose registered breeders who sell purebred dogs. You may visit the nearest Kennel Association and ask about a list of breeders of the breed you are interested in. While you make the list, ask the buyers if they recommend the breeders they chose.
You chose a breeder you liked the most. Now it’s time to talk to them, ask about the particular breed, they will likely help you in choosing a puppy. A breeder should be a perfect source of knowledge for the future owner. Avoid the breeders who are not willing to answer your questions and are not interested in the future of their puppies.
If it’s possible, get to know the parents of your puppy. See what they are like, how they act when meeting a new person, how do they treat their babies, check if they are acting nervous or stressed. It will help you to decide on buying the particular puppy, as the puppies inherit many features from their parents.
Make sure to check what are the living conditions of a mother and her puppies. If there are any concerns, think carefully whether it is the place you want to take a puppy from. If you see the pets that look neglected, you should inform the appropriate institution: the police or veterinary authorities.
If we buy a dog from a registered breeder, we need to sign a purchase agreement. The puppy has to be vaccinated, dewormed and chipped. It has to have a health booklet and a certificate of pedigree. Do not trust the breeders who promise to send the certificate by post or claim that the dog has no certificate as it is the ninth puppy of the litter. Every puppy sold by a breeder has to have the certificate of pedigree.
When you find a perfect breeder and buy the dog of our dreams you are ready for a happy life together. Train your puppy to be friendly, take care of it and love it, as the dog we raise will be our loyal, loving friend for many years to come.
