Why it is a good thing to talk to your dog?

Why it is a good thing to talk to your dog-art

Dogs have been men’s best friends since their earliest history. Yet is communication between species really possible as a result of thousands of years of history written together? Sure it is! Although this type of communication is not so conventional as the human-to-human type, it is still worthwhile.

What benefits are there in talking to your dog?

Certainly, the most important value here is the strengthening of your relationship. Your dog will keenly listen to your report on how your day was. Even though she doesn’t understand a bit of it, she will still happily wave her tail.

Similarly, a dog owner who is successful in reading the messages sent out by their canine friend, such as those about willing to go out or to play, will get the dog’s confidence.

Talking to a dog can also be considered a kind of therapy. The four-legged family members are perfect facilitators, capable to ease the stress and tension like nobody else. Their mere presence is enough to soothe the emotions of humans. A dog is also a great confidant. A dog will not reveal your secrets, criticize your behavior or appearance, which is a truly important canine feature for a lot of shy people.

How to talk to a dog?

When you start a conversation, remember that the dog does not understand your language but only your gestures and the tone of your voice. Based on the associative mechanism, dogs are capable of differentiating between specific instructions. If you repeat the phrase “going out” in the same optimistic tone, and follow it up with an actual walk, the dog will associate the instruction with the subsequent action. The responses to owners’ words or gestures make up the communication between the animals and their humans.

The right intonation is also important in everyday messages. Whenever you praise your dog for her accomplishments, remember about a friendly tone of your voice. When you reprimand her, on the other hand, you need to be firm and tenacious.

What’s here now matters

As you implement your scheme of rewards and punishments, bear in mind that your dog is not aware of the time passing. For dogs, there is no past or future. They live entirely in the present, not remembering what they did 10 minutes ago. Therefore, it is inappropriate to punish a dog for tearing up your sofa after a certain time has passed. What does it look like in practice? If you get back home, see your furniture damaged and get carried away by negative emotions, your pet will perceive it as a reprimand for being happy about you coming back home. So when you train a puppy, or even when you play with an adult dog, you should respond immediately to anything that happens.
