Enjoy moments together
Even before you bring a new fluffy companion home, you should decide what you are going to feed your puppy and set up rules to be followed by all household members.
You can feed them dry food; choose the best quality with the right proportion of nutrients and vitamins.
If you want to supervise the composition of your pet’s diet yourself, it is possible to prepare it at home, whether it is cooked food or a barf diet. Both possibilities are, however, more time-consuming and need to be planned as much as your own diet.
When you bring it home
For the beginning, the breeder should provide you with several portions of the currently fed dry food and especially its exact name and amount the puppy has been accustomed to. In case you have decided to use a different kind of food, avoid any abrupt changes. Gradually add the new dry food to the one the puppy’s digestion is accustomed to. Such a transition process to a new diet may last for a fortnight. If the change is too abrupt, it may cause health problems such as diarrhoea, vomiting or flatulence.
How to choose the right food for your puppy?
Dry food for puppies is selected based on their size. Small and medium breeds need a different composition for their proper development than large breeds. Dry food should primarily contain meat, then carbohydrates and animal fats, better digestible for dogs. The amount of protein and calcium differs for small and large dogs. Another difference is also the size of the kibbles.
Nutrilove food meets all these requirements and additionally contains glucosamine, chondroitin and phosphorus for healthy skeleton and joints.
If you are not sure what to choose, consult it with your vet. However, there are many manufacturers on the market, so it is a good idea to bring a detailed composition of the food you favour.
Rules, rules and more rules
Just like when it comes to the whole upbringing and training of the puppy, there need to be fixed rules for feeding. So, how to feed your puppy correctly?
Feeding should take place regularly and for a certain time. Giving your dog access to a bowl with dry food the whole day will only lead to unnecessary overeating. Fill the bowl and leave it in place for 15 minutes. Then remove it, even if the dog has not eaten the whole portion, and only leave the water bowl.
There should be some time for rest after feeding. So do not plan any long walks or games for at least one hour. Then you can have fun together again.
Your dog would eat also:
