Enjoy moments together
Cats love hygiene. They can care for their fur even few times a day. And, although, keeping it clean is really important for them, there can occur situations, in which they need support. How to handle this, especially when there is a cold winter outside?
The basic care treatment for indoor cats, is to cut their claws regularly. Their overgrowth is dangerous both for themselves and their masters, for whom an innocent fun can end with a harmful scratch.
Regular visits to a veterinary centre is a perfect solution for all those who fear cut the claws by themselves. An experienced personnel can carry out the treatment efficiently and painlessly. Before going to a veterinary surgeon, it is worth to prepare a transporter by spreading a blanket inside. On a cold day, even a short walk from home to a car can be an unnecessary discomfort for a cat.
By deciding to treat a cat at home, it is necessary to bear several elements in mind, thanks to which the treatment will be easier and less stressful for our pet. Comfortable conditions are the most important. It is a good practice to push pads and show laws while spending time together. Thanks to this, your cat will associate this action with something pleasant and this will be less stressful for it during the treatment. While cutting claws we remember to remove only the end, cutting the further part of a claw involves the risk of damaging a nerve which will cause pain for a furball.
Cat can care for itself perfectly and does not need help in such a trifle as a bath.
However, there is an exception like a situation, in which cat’s curiosity leads it to a renovated room with a drying paint on a wall or to a cellar, where coal is being stored. What to do then? Above all, don’t stress your cat and provide heat in home. Avoiding draughts is an absolute basis during winter bath. Water temperature is equally important. The best one is that corresponding with a cat’s temperature, that is between 38 and 39 °C. It is worth to bear in mind that only a shampoo for cats is appropriate for the bath. The animal has its own skin pH and a human equivalent can irritate it. After a gentle spreading and rinsing a shampoo, a cat can be dried, preferably by using a cotton towel, and when its furs is completely dried – comb it out.
Despite cats show an apparent self-reliance, we should not be misled by appearances. Combing does not only forge healthy relations between a master and its pupil, but also prevents a furball from licking its hair off, which can be the cause of vomiting, or even problems with its digestive system.
Combing frequency is an individual matter, however, it is possible to assume that it is good to comb long-hair cats every day. For their short-hair cousins, one treatment per week is enough. Brush can’t be selected randomise. The first group needs a brush with a natural bristles, thanks to which the hair remains glossy and fluffy. Comb proves itself in dealing with tangles. Hair of a short-hair cat will settle for a traditional slicker brush, which will carry hair and improve its volume.
